Question 1
A weather report gives the wind as 270 degrees at 15 knots. From which direction is the wind blowing?
- AFrom the north, towards the south
- BFrom the east, towards the west
- CFrom the south, towards the north
- DFrom the west, towards the east
Show answer
Correct answer: D. From the west, towards the east
Wind direction is always given as the direction the wind blows from. 270 degrees is west, so the air moves from the west towards the east.
Question 2
Your UA's user manual states a maximum wind resistance of 12 m/s. The forecast mean wind at your site is 25 knots. What should you conclude?
- AKnots and m/s are close enough to be treated as the same unit
- B25 knots is about 7 m/s, so there is a comfortable margin
- C25 knots is about 25 m/s, which is twice the limit
- D25 knots is about 13 m/s, so it already exceeds the limit
Show answer
Correct answer: D. 25 knots is about 13 m/s, so it already exceeds the limit
25 knots x 0.51 is about 12.9 m/s, already above the 12 m/s limit before any gusts are considered. The flight should not go ahead.
Question 3
A METAR contains the wind group 27015G25KT. How is this decoded?
- AWind from 150 degrees at 27 knots with gusts to 25 knots
- BWind towards 270 degrees at 15 knots, gusts 25 metres per second
- CWind from 270 degrees at 25 knots with lulls down to 15 knots
- DWind from 270 degrees at 15 knots with gusts to 25 knots
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Wind from 270 degrees at 15 knots with gusts to 25 knots
The first three digits are the direction the wind blows from (270 degrees, west), the next two are the mean speed (15 kt), and G25 means gusts up to 25 kt.
Question 4
In subcategory A2 you fly a C2 UA at 40 m height without low-speed mode. Following AMC1 UAS.OPEN.030(1), what is the minimum lateral distance to uninvolved persons?
- A5 m
- B30 m
- C40 m
- D50 m
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 40 m
The 1:1 rule gives at least 40 m at 40 m height, and without low-speed mode the distance must in any case be greater than 30 m, so 40 m applies.
Question 5
Your C2 UA has low-speed mode active (3 m/s) and is flying at 20 m height near uninvolved persons. Using the 1:1 rule, what lateral distance should you keep?
- AAt least 5 m
- BAt least 20 m
- CAt least 30 m
- DAt least 10 m
Show answer
Correct answer: B. At least 20 m
With low-speed mode the absolute minimum is 5 m, but the 1:1 rule still applies as a reference: at 20 m height the distance should be at least 20 m.
Question 6
You fit a heavier camera to your multirotor, still within the manufacturer's allowed payload. What effect should you expect on the flight?
- ALonger flight time, because the extra mass improves stability
- BHigher maximum speed, because the extra mass adds momentum
- CUnchanged flight time, because hover power does not depend on mass
- DShorter flight time, because the motors need more power to hover
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Shorter flight time, because the motors need more power to hover
A multirotor carries its whole weight on rotor thrust, so more mass needs more thrust and more electrical power, which shortens endurance. Extra mass does not improve speed or efficiency.
Question 7
To be marked as class C2, what is the maximum take-off mass limit of the UA?
- ALess than 900 g, including payload
- BLess than 4 kg, excluding payload
- CLess than 25 kg, including payload
- DLess than 4 kg, including payload
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Less than 4 kg, including payload
Part 3 of the Annex to Reg. (EU) 2019/945 requires a C2 UA to have an MTOM of less than 4 kg, including payload.
Question 8
What ground speed must the low-speed mode of a class C2 multirotor not exceed?
- A1 m/s
- B5 m/s
- C19 m/s
- D3 m/s
Show answer
Correct answer: D. 3 m/s
A C2 UA that is not fixed-wing must have a low-speed mode, selectable by the remote pilot, that limits ground speed to no more than 3 m/s.
Question 9
A C2 UA has a manufacturer MTOM of 3.6 kg. With a new payload the take-off mass is 3.7 kg, still below the class C2 limit. May the remote pilot fly?
- AYes, because only the class limit is legally binding
- BNo, because the manufacturer's MTOM is exceeded
- CYes, provided the flight is kept below 60 m height
- DYes, provided an unmanned aircraft observer is used
Show answer
Correct answer: B. No, because the manufacturer's MTOM is exceeded
The remote pilot must verify that the mass exceeds neither the manufacturer's MTOM nor the class limit. Being under the C2 limit is not enough if the manufacturer's 3.6 kg MTOM is exceeded.
Question 10
Your charger reports that each cell of a standard LiPo pack has reached full charge. Which per-cell voltage should it show?
- A3.7 V
- B3.85 V
- C4.2 V
- D4.35 V
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 4.2 V
A standard LiPo cell is fully charged at 4.2 V. 4.35 V applies to high-voltage (LiHV) cells, and 3.7 V is only the nominal voltage.
Question 11
A UAS operator fits a payload to a C2 UA that does not comply with the allowed payload characteristics. What is the consequence?
- ANothing, provided the MTOM stays below 4 kg
- BThe UA can still fly in A2 but only at 30 m
- CIt loses class conformity; specific category only
- DThe UA is automatically reclassified as class C1
Show answer
Correct answer: C. It loses class conformity; specific category only
A non-compliant payload is considered a modification that invalidates class conformity. The class label must be removed and the UAS may only be operated in the specific category.
Question 12
Your class C2 UA is hovering at 30 m height directly above a point that is 20 m horizontally from a pedestrian. The straight-line distance from the UA to the pedestrian is about 36 m. Which value counts as the horizontal distance to the pedestrian?
- A36 m, the straight-line distance
- B30 m, equal to the flight height
- C20 m, measured from the vertical-fall point
- D56 m, the sum of height and offset
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 20 m, measured from the vertical-fall point
The horizontal distance is measured from the point where the UA would hit the ground in a vertical fall to the person, so it is 20 m. Without an active low-speed mode that is less than the 30 m minimum.
